let it rain until it wash us all away....

i'm sitting here in my office literally covered in goosebumps. my copy of the best of what's around finally arrived in the mail today and i just managed to listen to the A M A Z I N G version of "two step" from the giant's stadium show on june 11, 2001. i didn't have this blog back then, but i did post a show review on another website, which i just found and am going to post below... i've been to a lot of concerts in my day, but that stormy summer night proved to be the single most memorable concert moment EVER... ahh i still get goosebumps just thinking about it! hard to believe it was over five years ago....
i was so happy they put the soundboard version on the greatest hits album... although the bootleg recording i have captures the thunder much more clearly....there's no way to properly convey the magic that was in the air that night. glorious!

I don't normally attempt to review shows but this had to be done, it was TOO amazing. After all the chaos that resulted at the RFK show two nights earlier, the first night of Giants stadium proved to be a night to live in infamy. Be forewarned, if you were not there, then there are absolutely not enough words in the English language to properly convey what occurred Monday night!! The show's setlist was at first eerily similar to that of the RFK show, WTHE, BOWA, and the BEF into Bartender. All though these were all wonderful, the highlight of the evening came at the very end. Small showers came around several times during the show, but the increasing frequency of lightning and thunder right around WWYS made it clear that something big was going to happen. The band came back out with TSB, and as Dave sang, "(like) will it rain today?" the crowd erupted cause we were all wondering the same thing!
The thunder and lightning increased more as the band started Two Step, and Dave opened the song with some lyrics that I couldn't completely hear (and if anyone taped it PLEASE EMAIL ME) but the lyrics ended with "let it rain let it rain" and apparently dave has some sort of control over the weather because by god it did! By the time Dave began the actual traditional lyrics of the song everyone was COMPLETELY drenched. Imagine the most serious rain you can, (at least that I've ever seen) and then imagine DMB playing two step in it. But instead of this being an annoyance, it was a cause for celebration. Everyone was cheering like I've never heard (at over 30 shows) before. As the band continued the song, the torrential rain added hail down upon us but I don't think anyone really noticed. The band gave us the best jam I have EVER heard on two step and the crowd had the best reaction I have ever witnessed. By the climax of the song all hands were in the air and the pandemonium was clear, however, unlike RFK everyone was HAPPY. And EXCITED. People were screaming FAR after the band left the stage, it was awesome. Simply awesome.

ahh i have a feeling i'll be listening to this song on repeat quite a bit today. i'm so looking forward to next summer's tour! no more drama, no more stupidity! just me and the band i love. ... :)
in other news, sarah and i are booking our NYE trip to san diego... rock!!! :)

the clouds they opened up their head and let it down
there came a hand from skywards raining...
all we could say was
let it rain until it wash us all away..."

Hey this is totally random that I'm even on your page... but I was searching very frantically for the lyrics to the version of "Two Step" on The Best of What's Around and, when I typed it in on google, your blog came up so I was reading it. I just wanted to let you know that, the first time I heard that song, I was completely overwhelmed because it's the most amazing version I've ever heard!!!! It gave me chills throughout the entire song!! It's so good I just don't know how to describe it and most people don't understand that. But, from the looks of it, you do! And that's awesome!
