lowered expectations.
when you work hard at doing nothing, you find that people are pleasantly surprised when you do anything. overjoyed at finding me not only out of my room, but conversational to boot, my mom gladly accompainied me to see leonard cohen, i'm your man. wonderful lil' rockumentary... rufus, of course, took over the film whenever he graced the screen. god help me, i love that man. it's crazy that rufus & his music have brought something very real into my life, given that he's been my one true love for some seven years. ever the pessimist, i have to believe that rufus & his music will be in my life longer than any real "something", but i suppose only time will tell. 'twas my mother's first exposure to rufus on stage, and she was very complimentary of his performance, although she preferred martha. hilarity was my mom asking about the "man in the dark glasses with the weird accent" and i had to clarify that it was BONO. ahhhh sometimes i can't believe we're related.
spent most of last week in philadelphia, searching for jobs and the like. thanks to american eagle's fabulous new promotion, valerie and i secured no less than 3 free movie tickets each, and i'm proud to say i've seen the new pirates twice, and i love it. the first time i saw it, i thought, 'ehhh'... the second time, i realized it's quite brillant. i tried to anaylze it for valerie, and she was amazed at my ability to find symbolism in just about everything. the philadelphia crew is convinced that i'm the new meryl streep... based on her character in the devil wears prada and some old pictures from the 70s. i think there are far worse things in this world to be compared to, so i'll take it.
just over three weeks til my 26th birthday. i'm an old maid.

"I don't mean to suggest that I loved you the best,
I can't keep track of each fallen robin.
I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel, that's all,
I don't even think of you that often.."
