obsessions don't have preliminaries
a potentially horrible day saved by the power of positive thinking.
i left work in a mood that matched the grey weather but said to hell with it and treated myself to the 6:40 showing of 'de-lovely' in fairfax. i've been talking about the movie forever and just couldn't wait for my stupid friends to make time to go see it. so i went by myself! and let me tell you people, i am a WOndeRFUl date! :~)
but seriously, SUCH a fantastic movie. i'm not sure why they abandoned the original title "what would have happened if courtney and rufus had meet in the roaring 20's", but it was still great. ashley judd = soooooo amazing. she literally brought me to tears, not once, but twice before it was over. and anyone that knows me realizes that tears from courtney (the woman with empty tear ducts and a heart three sizes too small) is better than any oscar, golden globe, or people's choice award. robbie williams, alanis, and elvis costello were as really great... but the real surprise was sheryl crow, who i used to hate. not anymore, my friends. well, i don't entirely hate her. i still think 'soak up the sun' is the most annoying song of all time behind edwin mccain's 'i'll be'.... anyway...
so i immediately ran to barnes & noble to get the soundtrack and there was this really cool guy working in the music department.... i think his name was "yusef" or something... i dunno, he seemed really familiar... like someone i was friends with FOREVER ago.... hahaha.
so we caught up on all the latest drama, it's like, why can't this be a love story??
i was disappointed to learn that he only has THREE dave matthews band songs on his ipod... what's up with that???? you have THREE david wells songs.... "that's right, look who's being loud NOW."
and apparently i say all the wrong things to key players ... next time i'll take a script with me.
but i left b&n with a big smile on my face, that's all that matters... a smile that only got bigger when i got home and my 4.16.04 damien rice CD had arrived!!!! ahhhh, the NYC show that changed EVERYTHING... madonna in times square, irish boys beating people with jackets, showstoppers, LEONARD COHEN!!!! ... i went straight to disc 2 to hear 'hallelujah' and 'cold water'.... while i wrote this 'cannonball' finished and 'eskimo' began.... soooooooooooooo good. i'll get you a copy soon, y.

love taught me to cry
so come on courage
teach me to be shy
'cause it's not hard to fall
and i don't wanna scare her"
