Where were they going without ever knowing the way?

i've heard two different moby songs today and it's forcing me to remember the days when Moby Ruled The World. really, it wasn't that long ago... everyone thought he was king of all music, and would stay that way forever. sadly (or perhaps not sadly at all) it appears that he has slipped out of the limelight a bit. i wasn't ever really a fan, and so this didn't upset me. [update: i just realized that his greatest hits comes out next week. way to go moby-marketing people! flood those airwaves!]
anyway, i had another signifigant flasback to 1998 yesterday when fastball's "the way" came on the radio as i was enjoying the drive home from richmond. it reminded me of my beloved first, original, best 1988 corolla and it's rockin' cassette player. i swear i nearly wore out three cassettes during the glory years: fleetwood mac's the dance, fastball's the way, and pulp's different class.

anyway, i was remembering all of this as i flew up I-95 North when it occured to me that "the way" was also the song playing when i got my first speeding ticket. so i decided to slow down. ;)

"You can see their shadows wandering off somewhere
They won't make it home but they don't really care
They wanted the highway
They're happier there, today...."
