speaking of good music, guess it's time to start re-hashing the gorge weekend. hum, where to start.... i flew out with mixed emotions thursday morning, not exactly thrilled about going, but for reasons that had nothing to do with the band. my flight was direct - 6 hours total - and i kept thinking if i'm going to spend 6 hours in a plane, why not just fly to london? the city i LOVE? :) hehe. anyway....
arrived around 10:30AM PST, immediately ran into some of the crew... but had to wait for a couple hours before my element of the crew arrived... got the rental car and headed out to vantage... seattle is a beautiful town, and i look forward to seeing more of it in the future.... vantage, where we camped, is about 3 hours outside of the city, in "eastern washington state"... which is the more dry, rocky part.... compared to "western washington state" full of lush greenery and rainforests. i know, bizarre. after stopping at the grocery store, target, and the all-important liquor store, we finally arrived at the campground around 5pm. set up camp and immediately started the drinking party called gorge 2006. i have some pictures i'll put up soon. the landscape was entirely too beautiful to describe. both the gorge music venue and our campground were on the columbia river, nestled in the mountains. gorgeous. i got drunk very quickly, and passed out in my patheticly-worthless little sleeping bag.... (the temp was in the 90s during the day, 40s at night!!! SHIVER!!!!)
friday morning we woke up and i inquired as to whether 10.30am was too early to start the drinking party.... HELLS NO was the response i got, so it began.... several games of drunken uno later, we took our party to the river, and played drunken uno on stef's super-handy floating card table.... :) at some point my body said 'enough' because the next thing i knew i was passed out on the shore. quite comfortably i might add. hehehe. went back to camp to shower and prepare for tailgating... i managed to shower and fell back asleep in the entirely too warm tent... later i managed to get in the car and fell asleep again... then i managed to wake up long enough to go to will-call to pick up my tickets, before falling asleep again... by this point it was 6pm and stacey had quite a few offers from people willing to sit with her (in the 2nd row) should i not manage to wake up. but..... of course i did! 2nd row, biz-nitch!!! you don't sleep through that. i might have been wearing my pajamas, and might have been looking like trailer trash, but i was there. i was quite grumpy during the first several songs, but i woke up and enjoyed myself fully by the end.
simply breath-taking....the view from the top of the lawn, taken by katie:

night one, solo song during encore, taken from row 2:

night one, during stolen away (i think), taken from row 2:

both of those pics were taken on my camera phone, which i must say i love despite the phone's drawbacks overall. we were very close. anyway, more on the rest of the trip later...
