so much to say... where in the world to begin?
first: friday.
the vote for a change tour kick off at penn state. left work 'round noon on friday and flew around the beltway to todd's place in college park, (which coincidently, is the home of the biggest TV in the universe!) met joe and todd's friend salwa, and we were off... took just a few wrong turns but still managed to get there by 5, well before the 6pm kickoff time. i was surprised to see bush supporters outside, holding signs like "shut up and sing" - "we lov'ya dubya" - and my favorite, "dave matthews fans for bush"... which is, of course, a total oxymoron. ;) there was one Bush/Cheney sign in the crowd, opposed to quite a few kerry signs (and anti-bush signs, "less bush, more carter" "say goodbye to W"). i was rockin my john kerry shirt, and stefan smiled at me, i'm pretty sure b/c of the shirt... either that or he just thinks i'm hot. lol. and rudy, (the band's main photographer) definitely read my shirt, but he didn't smile... it was odd, he's so weird. joe & i sat in my 2nd row seats, on stefan/leroi's side of the stage. the most loyal DMB fans in pennslyvania, Donna & Mark, were right next to me as usual. so good to see them year after year up there. my morning jacket rocked, jurassic 5 was amazing... totally made me flashback to seeing them at the 9.30 club with anthony & jeff many moons ago and the tall guy in J5 (Chali 2na) put his arm around me and said "hey tall girl, i like standing next to you, you're tall like me..." *giggle*
ANYWAY, ben harper kicked some tail, made me realize i should have appreciated him more when he opened up for DMB in the summer of '00 and i thought he sucked. oh well.
the dave matthews band treated us to an excellent setlist... although i wouldn't put friday's show in my top five, it was quite solid.... jimi thing was AMAZING.... a long jam at the end that took it quite a new direction. we got a much much extended intro to don't drink the water, and any show with typical situation is a show to be at. loved it.
i sat shot-gun on the ride home, looking for some leg room, not realizing that the seat obligated me to keep todd awake for the whole drive home. it was cool though, we amused ourselves by calling everyone from wisconsin and bragging about the show. got back to college park around 3:30AM, and the most depressing moment of the night was when i got back onto 495 and saw the "27 miles to 95" sign... ugh... rolled into my house 'round 4:30AM and offically abandoned all plans of taking the practice GRE that day. found a fantastic package from abroad, which left a smile on my face as i went to sleep for about 11 hours. ugh, laziest girl EVER, that's me!
3:30AM - College Park, MD:
me: aight, kids, it's been real... i'll talk to ya'll lata!!!
joe: bye!! you ROCK, courtney!!
me: i know.
saturday night was chris' 21st birthday in tysons... sadly my coma prohibited me from attending the whole thing, but i got to give him my gift and watch him open ethan and yusef's FABULOUS gifts.... :) found out that ethan was the source of my mysterious saturday morning text message... haha. glad my boi-s are looking out for me!
later kasey, sarah, and i went... where else?... the front page in ballston. we were doing pretty good, drinking out on the patio and trying to call sarah's brother repeatedly to wish him a happy birthday. then we made a tactical error and found three empty barstools at the bar and assumed the position. pretty soon, we realized that it was, at LONG LONG LONG last... KASEY'S NIGHT!! dan, a longtime admirer of miss flanagan, suddenly appeared at her side, ready to whisk her off into the sunset... or out into the streets of arlington, one of the two. while kasey made plans for the future with dan dan the pilot man, sarah and i entertained the drunken ramblings of two men that can only be compared to harry and lloyd of 'dumb & dumber'... (Wanna hear the most annoying noise in the world?) thankfully lloyd and harry disappeared by the time it was all said and done, but our lil' danny boy helped kasey make the first big leap towards moving on. (actually, it was more like 5 leaps, but who's counting???) LOL.
sunday after we finally tracked down kasey, sarah got up and went to church - so kasey & i attended our own church by watchingogma' on comedy central and tried to figure out where it all went wrong/right saturday night.
typical.
