Merry Christmas to me!!!!

Singer-songwriter and pianist Rufus Wainwright (son of Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle) garnered critical success with this year's Release The Stars. Now, Rufus is taking his folk/pop music to a new stage with his opera, Prima Donna, which he plans to start writing next year. Rufus Wainwright is playing two special solo performances over one weekend at 9:30 Club this December. With his half-sister Lucy Wainwright Roche opening the show, this is one family affair worthy of a standing ovation.

an actual conversation part.2

many thanks to meredith for helping me remember this little gem from brian's going away party last night in fairfax.

dmb fan @ jukebox: "you're kind of a bitch."

me: "yeah i know."

dmb fan @ jukebox: "and you're kind of happy about, aren't you?"

me: "probably just as happy as you are about being an asshole."

LOL! do NOT mess with the master of the jukebox.

the older i get, the more i know...

courtapalooza has come and gone, and i think it was mostly a success. lots to say but i'm not feeling very chatty as i endure another 80's nightmare @ the state....

but i do love this little gem from james morrison, how appropriate.

"I'm still here,
But it hasn't been easy,
I'm sure that you had your reasons,
I'm scared for this emotion,
For years I've been holding it down,

And I,
Love to forgive and forget,
So I,
Try to put all this behind us,
Just,
Know that my arms are wide open,
The older I get, the more that I know.

Well it's time to let this go.

certainly not. you must kill me.

just finished. happiness. excitement. a tinge of saddness, now that it's all said and done. the books are genius, pure and simple. if you haven't read the series, consider yourself lucky because you can start and finish the entire story without the agonizing two year wait between books.

i can't wait to finish the film series. yay.

Uphold Your Standards!

Big doin's since the last post.

i had a big scare and became convinced my summer of fun was being nipped in the bud by the Barely Legal, but thanks to the support of my AMAZING friends it appears that i will pull through. Katt's having a hard time understanding the depth of my pain, but then again I don't think he's ever experienced the roller-coaster that is a Three Week Love Affair. It's tough, being back on the market after such a long time, but everyday it gets a little easier to get out of bed and face the world.

LOL! I'm being sarcastic about everything except how incredibly amazing my friends are. seriously sometimes it scares me to think about how dependant i've become on my friends, especially the State family. we really are a family, come what may.

a perfect combination of ettiqute and charm....

YAY for travis tonight!!! :)

july has so far been a ridiculously fun month, i must say. matt katt's pre-fourth of july party was a major hit, and in keeping with tradition i provided most of the evening's entertainment, lol. younger boys are fun. that's all i'm saying and i'm leaving it at that. ;)

tubing on the fourth was pretty rough but it was definitely fun and sarah managed to pass out on the car ride home, which is always hilarious. the next day back at work proved to be one full of mockery, but after last summer it's nothing i'm not used to, lol. 07.07.07 started with work, lead to andrea's birthday dinner, which ran into drinks with brian and his boys, that somehow lead to wine @ tif's, which bled into carpool with phiffany and The Younger Man, which carried on til breakfast. lol. sunday brought an absolutely ridiculous evening at the state, to the tune of $40 and urine on the stage... (gross!)

monday evening i took a quick trip to the 'burg to visit my perfect country grandparents/cousin, only to race back on tuesday to catch the legendary THREE HOUR set by the pumpkins @ 930!!!! holy crap!!! there are definitely different opinions on the need for a three hour set, but i loved every minute of it.

wednesday marked the release of HARRY POTTER and a lovely evening. 'twas supposed to be with my awesome sister, but she stood me up so i had to find a replacement. i tried to stay in the same age range, lol. definitely LOVED the movie, much more so than i loved the book.

after work on thursday i headed back to the 930, this time with the amazing Toni a la harrisonburg. sigh.... the night that was supposed to be never materialized.... yusef speaks much better than i.... ended up spending the evening @ the Ps for andrea's REAL birthday, which was simply too much fun, altho definitely not as much fun as a night with toni/yusef/chris/max and the superfan shannon would have been tho....

on friday sarah and i finished the rest of the bag of wine we started on the 4th, and headed to jason's going away party. hilarity. saturday was a looooong day that included the worst possible situation of me waiting tables. ugh. waiting tables always reminds me how much i love working in the box office. altho the wad of cash at the end of the night definitely rocked.

yesterday was a pretty short night which, in typical fashion, lead to a really long night at the falls church bars. ugh. luckily i had a Younger Man looking out for me and keeping my drunk self away from the steering wheel. yay for that.

tonight's TRAVIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! haven't seen them since Liverpool in '05!!! i miss helen!!!

my future will mend the memories

altho her people have yet to confirm it, popular opinion is that ms. aguilera bratman is, indeed, expecting her first child. if it turns out to be true, then i am very happy for her!!! if it turns out to be false, well... then i just posted a hot pic of Xtina for no reason, lol.

a good riddance of bad rubbish

i'm a little fired up right now, so you'll have to forgive this post in advance. or, at least, keep my mood in mind as you read the rest of this entry. i had a situation with a gentlemen recently where i was able to say everything i felt at the height of all my anger, and i cannot say how completely fulfilling it was. if there's one feeling that's beyond frustrating it's that feeling of outrage at other people in a situation where you can't immediately let them know how you feel. grrr....

so, what to say? june is done and done and i must say it was a pretty revealing month, all in all. the month literally started in annoyance, at the Ps, which eventually lead the aforementioned situation which, altho frustrating, was good in the sense that it ended quickly and completely (and didn't, for example... just a crazy random example, of course, negatively impact any of my family members or their careers.....) ahem.

then came the Mika show, so much fun and a little alarming when i realized and micah confirmed, that i am and probably forever will be a gay man trapped in a straight girl's body.

then i headed south to VABeach for a little R&R. at least, that was the plan. most of the R&R didn't come til almost the end of the trip, but in typical ashlie/courtney fashion we partied with rockstars whilst laughing the night away. i could say more, but i wouldn't want to jeopardize anyone's career.
i believe charles, paraphrasing william, said it best, but for me to quote it here would be too much.

coming back from the beach was slightly delayed by a visit to the valley, and dr. Phil had to lecture me about my automobile maintenance habits, lol, but it was nothing too horrible that couldn't be solved in a day. from there it was back home, back to the state, and back to reality as i started my voluntary two weeks of sobriety. despite the fact that i had given the entire staff a full weeks warning of my plan, i wasn't prepared for how severely my sobriety would effect the entire building. more than once i heard things like: "this is harder on us than it is you!" or "come july i'm pouring a bottle of grey goose down your throat!"... lol. well the experiment of sorts is over now and i can say that, more than anything, i learned that i really like drinking. it's just fun. i need to be more responsible about certain things, but i want to have fun. being sober did teach me one thing: it is highly amusing to find out how much people will see what they want to see and believe what they want to believe. when the boss and i quarrelled one night he was quick to blame it on *my* intoxication, and boy howdy was he surprised to learn that, quite unlike him, i'd been drinking ginger ale all night. this was the second incident in june where someone much more intoxicated than myself at that moment wanted to incorrectly blame my actions on alcohol. don't assume.

and now the month is over and we embrace july, and all the excitement that comes with the countdown to august.
4th of july soiree at the katt's house tomorrow, followed by lord only knows what kind of trouble on wednesday.
rock.

"That was a memorable day to me, for it made great changes in me. But, it is the same with any life. Imagine one selected day struck out of it, and think how different its course would have been. Pause you who read this, and think for a moment of the long chain of iron or gold, of thorns or flowers, that would never have bound you, but for the formation of the first link on one memorable day."

Thursday, June 28, 2007

i finally understand how the fans of "sports night" - "freaks and geeks" - or even "my so-called life" felt after the cancellation of their one-season-old darlings.

i didn't get to watch every episode of "studio 60 on the sunset strip" when they originally aired (due to scheduling conflicts with grey's, of course) but i definitely loved every minute of the episodes i did catch. Studio60 was smart, (too smart, some say, for American audiences) and touched on political issues most dra-medies won't dare to go near. yes, sorkin was clearly using the show to vent about his own struggles in the business of television, but tonight's finale very blatently addressed the ridiculousness of the nation's current administration and the fear that accompanies having an opinion in the public spotlight. as someone who paid close attention to the country in both pre- and post- 9/11, i must admit i agreed with most of the sentiments expressed by the characters tonight. and i love the fact that the show uses flashbacks of the year 2001 to say the things everyone was afraid to say in 2001. the critics called Studio60 "preachy... overbearing... condescending" and yes, the show was all of these things at times. but perhaps that was exactly what this country needed, and still needs.

and it might be june but, one of the best Xmas TV scenes, ever.

~cfc

ps - confidental to NBC: perhaps the reason none of your shows are catching on is because your website is SO INCREDIBLY annoying to use! take a page from ABC and allow your viewers to easily catch up on episodes they miss and perhaps they'll actually want to tune into to the new episodes.... just a thought.

all my little life i've wanted to roam....

there are simply no words for how much i love this man.

watch this and not giggle. i dare you.

gotta love the ol' dominion!

suddenly yusef's move to MD makes a lot more sense....

Attention Virginians: The cost of bad driving is about to go up. Way up.

Say you are driving 78 mph on the Capital Beltway and a state trooper tickets you for "reckless driving -- speeding 20 mph over." You will probably be fined $200 by the judge. But then you will receive a new, additional $1,050 fine from the Old Dominion, payable in three convenient installments. So convenient that you must pay the first one immediately, at the courthouse.

First-time drunk driver? A $300 fine from the judge and a $2,250 fee from the commonwealth.

Driving without a license? Maybe a $75 fine. Definitely a $900 fee from Virginia.

As part of the plan to fund the annual $1 billion transportation package approved this year, state legislators endorsed a new set of "civil remedial fees" for all misdemeanor and felony traffic violations, such as speeding 20 mph above the limit, reckless driving and, in some cases, driving with faulty brakes. Drivers with points on their licenses -- a speeding ticket usually earns four points -- will be hit for $75 for every point above eight and $100 for having that many points in the first place.

The new fees will go into effect July 1, and defense attorneys, prosecutors and judges expect chaos. Court clerks fear having to deal with angry hordes learning about the fees for the first time at the payment window.
